Updated Water Tank and Pump Grant Initiative in Mauritius

Water Tank and Domestic Water Pump Grant Scheme 2023-2024

The Mauritian Government, under the 2023/2024 budget, has enhanced the Water Tank Grant Scheme to better assist families in securing reliable water resources. This initiative, managed by the Development Bank of Mauritius (DBM), now includes significant updates to expand its reach and utility.

Key Enhancements

  • Increased Water Tank Capacity: The grant now covers water tanks of 1,000 liters or more, with a financial provision of Rs 10,000, to ensure families have ample water storage.
  • Enhanced Water Pump Grant: The subsidy for domestic water pumps has increased from Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,000, with an option to consider solar-powered pumps, reflecting a commitment to sustainable solutions.
  • Additional Provisions: Suppliers are required to provide essential tank fittings worth Rs 1,000, enhancing the setup’s functionality.

Eligibility Criterias

  • The applicant should be aged 18 years and above
  •  The applicant should be the owner, landlord or tenant provided that the building where the water tank is installed is a principal place of residence, that is, the primary location where the applicant resides most of the time.
  • The house where the water tank will be installed shall not be owned by a government authority/ local authority.
  • The applicant should be the purchaser of the tank and domestic water pump.

Eligibility Expansion

Reflecting the changes announced back in 2019, the income threshold for eligibility has been updated to accommodate families with a monthly income of up to Rs 50,000. This scheme is aimed at:

    • Residents (owners or tenants) who are registered customers of the Central Water Authority.
    • Families that have not previously benefited from a water tank grant to ensure fair distribution of resources.
